Results & Feedback

In 2024, the competition will be a Hackathon format, held as part of the AES Europe 2024 Convention. Contestants may participate in person or through an online submission during the same timeframe.

The coding task will be announced at the event by an industry or research partner nominated by the AES. Participants will be provided access to supplemental materials such as test data, code baselines, or reference papers at that time. Participation in person is strongly encouraged but not required.

To indicate your interest and receive exclusive information and materials, please complete the form below:

2024 MATLAB Hackathon, Rules + Info

Sponsored by MathWorks, the MATLAB Plugin AES Student Competition is an international contest for aspiring audio developers. For participating students, it constitutes an opportunity to learn, make connections with the industry, receive feedback from technical experts, and become an active part of the AES student community.

In 2024 the competition will take the form of a Hackathon, held as part of the AES Europe 2024 Convention. Contestants may participate in-person or through an online submission during the same timeframe.

The coding task will be announced at the event by an industry or research partner nominated by the AES. At that time, participants will also be provided access to any supplemental materials such as test data, code baselines, or reference papers. Participation in-person is strongly encouraged but not required.

To participate in the MATLAB Plugin AES Student Competition, you must:

1.    Be a current Student Member of the Audio Engineering Society. Join at aes.org/join. Please note that fees vary by region.

2.    Be enrolled in a student program related to audio engineering or software design at the time of the event. If participating as a team, all members should also be students

3.    If submitting on behalf of a team, gain approval from the rest of the team as the sole representative

4.    Submit your project description electronically according to the submission guidelines prior to the deadline.

If a project is designed by a team of students all team members must, at minimum, also be enrolled students affiliated with a university audio program, which will be verified through the respective faculty advisers. To present as a team all team members must meet the complete eligibility criteria. Violation of these rules will result in disqualification. Late entries will not be accepted under any circumstance.
